Peyton Johnson is the Assistant Director of Bands at Mandeville High School in Mandeville, LA. He strives to provide his students with a high quality music education through diverse repertoire and a wide range of performance experiences.

Peyton received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Louisiana State University in May 2024. During his time at LSU, he was a member of the trombone studio, studying under Dr. Hana Beloglavecs and Dr. Carson King-Fournier. He has also performed with many of the concert and athletic ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Golden band from Tiger Land Marching Band, and Bengal Brass Basketball Band. In the chamber music setting, Mr. Johnson performed as a member of one of the LSU undergraduate brass quintets, studying under LSU Horn professor and member of Atlantic Brass, Seth Orgel. Outside of performance, Peyton Johnson has assisted with instrument repair and maintenance under Steve Koivisto in the LSU Instrument repair shop, which serves all LSU instrumental music students and ensembles.

For his student teaching, Peyton Johnson has worked with the Zachery High School Band Program in Zachery, LA under the direction of Jason Venable and Donny Alexander. They lead a highly successful program with a tradition of consistent sweepstakes at LMEA Large Ensemble Assessment and excellence with multiple jazz performance ensembles. During Peyton’s time at Zachery High School, the band travelled to Orlando, Florida for participation in the 2024 Festival Disney Assessment, in which the ensemble received straight superior ratings under the split conducting and rehearsal duties of both directors and Mr. Johnson.

Outside of his time at LSU, Peyton has assisted as a brass instructor for local schools Mandeville High School (2021-2023) and Northwestern Middle School (2024). Along with assisting with marching instruction with Smithson Valley High School (2022) in San Antonio, TX.

Peyton Johnson is excited for what’s to come and hopes to bring his joy for music to whatever classroom he finds himself in!
